The Sumner County Economic Development Commission, Cowley First, Cowley College, and the Sumner County Farm Bureau co-sponsored a bus trip February 5th to the Flat Ridge Wind Farm in Barber County.  Thirty-two people from Sumner and Cowley counties participated in the trip.  Cowley College provided the buses and Alternity Wind Power provided the lunch.  The purpose of these bus trips is to educate our citizens about wind farms," stated Janis Hellard, Director of the Sumner County Economic Development Commission.  "The trip to Elk River last May was to see a wind farm already in production.  The trip to Flat Ridge was to look at one still in the construction phase."  For further information of this wind farm, please visit the following website: Flat Ridge Wind Farm

Elk River Wind Project - Beaumont, KS

Sumner County Economic Development Commission and Sumner County Farm Bureau sponsored a Wind Farm Tour to the Ferrell Ranch in Beaumont, Kansas on May 28, 2008.  39 area residents participated with a bus trip, lunch at the Beaumont Hotel, and tour of the wind farm on the Ferrell Ranch.  It was a very impressive and informative trip.  For further information on this wind farm, please visit the following website:Elk River Wind Project
