Mulvane Proposes Lower Property Taxes, Electric Rates

The Mulvane City Council has agreed to include a reduction of 10% in city property taxes in 2013 and a reduction of 5% in city electrical rates in 2012 as part of the city's 2013 budget plan.  The budget is exprected by be approved on August 6th.

These reductions and other city improvements are able to be made thanks to the revenue from the Kansas Star Casino.  "It is gratifying to see positive impact is already being realized by revenue we receive from the Kansas Star Casino," Kent Hixson, Mulvane City Administrator said.

Along with property tax dollars, the city of Mulvane received 1% of gross gaming revenue generated by the Kansas Star Casino.  Mulvane has currently received over $844,000, an amount that has already exceeded the expected amount for the entire year.

Additional property taxes and gaming revenue will be used to fund a new EMS substation, which will be open near the Kansas Star Casino next spring.

The Kansas Star is also helping in the cost of a new elevated water storage tower to improve fire protection for Mulvane and is funding the cost of the City's new waste water treatment plant.
