






The Kansas Star Casino hosted their grand opening celebration Friday January 11th. The celebration consisted of a ribbon-cutting, an invited guests-only reception, and a scheduled fireworks display. Unfortunately the fireworks were cancelled due to the high winds after dark.
Casino officials attending the celebration included Bill Boyd, executive chairman of Boyd Gaming; Keith Smith, Body Gaming president and CEO; Marianne Johnson, Boyd Gaming vice-president; Jonathan Swain, chief operating officer with Peninsula Gaming; and Scott Cooper, Kansas Star general manager.
Oxford’s dream of a grocery store is closer than ever. Fundraising to remodel the former lumber yard building into a facility suitable to house a grocery store started in early 2012 and now is getting very close to the goal. According to Jo Hayes, Oxford Development Corporation fundraising chairman, “ There have been some very generous pledges made as fundraising reaches different plateaus to finish off the goal of $80,000.
Hayes reported that a little over $20,000 needs to be donated to reach the goal and start with the remolding process.
