BELLE PLAINE

POPULATION 1,568

This small suburb of Wichita is just under 30 miles from Wichita, which has a large manufacturing base. The aviation industry has a strong presence here, represented by Boeing, Cessna, Bombardier Learjet, and Raytheon, even though the economic downturn prompted job cuts. Health care is the area’s second-biggest industry. Belle Plaine prides itself on its “excellent schools” and “quality people,” according to the town's website. One of the high points of the year is the annual Tulip Time Festival, which is held in the spring and attracts visitors from across the state for two days of arts and crafts, food, entertainment, and sports. Of the 50 places on this list, Belle Plaine is the No. 6 best place in the U.S. to raise your kids and the number 1 place in Kansas. Source: Bloomberg Businessweek Lifestyles

BP Tulip Time.jpg

Belle Plaine, located in the northeastern corner of Sumner County, is renowned for their annual Tulip Time Festival held the second weekend in April. Located on Highway 55, 10 minutes south of Wichita, and bordered on the west by the BNSF main line, Belle Plaine is an excellent choice for businesses wanting to expand in the Wichita metro area.

Many Belle Plaine residents are employed in the aviation industry, and the community has several aviation related manufacturers in the Belle Plaine Industrial Park. Other products manufactured range from precision machined parts and cast iron products, to richly detailed woodwork including mantels, mouldings, cabinet doors, detailed columns, finials, and more.

Belle Plaine, blessed with fertile agricultural terrain in the heart of the Ninnescah Valley, is often referred to as Paradise Valley and is home to the Bartlett Arboretum. The Arboretum is a terrific venue for events and outdoor weddings on the lush green lawn, shaded by rare trees over a century old. Come enjoy the sights in this community which keeps their tulip tradition alive each year with tulips on nearly every corner. Or if you are just traveling through, be sure to stop at the Belle Plaine Welcome Center, the only Kansas Tourism Center on I-35 in southern Kansas.
