SCEDC

  • Retention and expansion of existing businesses 

  • Recruitment of businesses to locate within Sumner County and its communities 

  • Provide entrepreneurs/business startups access to assistance with business plan writing, marketing and financial resources etc. 

  • Assist with available sites and buildings 

  • Assist new and existing businesses with local, state, and federal programs and incentives 

  • Provide resources and act as a liaison for our businesses and communities with service providers and partner agencies

  • Provide support to Sumner County Communities in community development issues and needs

  • Assist businesses with their workforce needs including offering training classes when grant funds are available

WHERE WE ARE

Sumner County is located in south-central Kansas (Central Time Zone) twenty-three miles south of Wichita and abutting the Oklahoma border. Sumner County is part of the Wichita Metropolitan Statistical Area.  The County encompasses 1,185 square miles and the population in 2010 was 24,132.  The County seat is the City of Wellington with a population of 8,172 (2010).  The County is home to eleven incorporated communities, they are Argonia, Belle Plaine, Caldwell, Conway Springs, Gueda Springs, Hunnewell, Mayfield, Milan, Oxford, South Haven, and Wellington.  A portion of the City of Mulvane also lies in Sumner County.  There are a number of smaller communities located within the county that are not incorporated.
